All About Bhandardara Camping


Are you really bored with your hectic schedule and want to escape from it. Then Bhandardara camping is the best for you to visit to find some peace and have a blissful experience of nature. Bhandardara camping is located over Igatpuri in the wetern ghats of India. Of Course everyone likes to camp but camping over Bhandardara would do the work of cherry on a cake. As it is surrounded by its lust of greenery and wildlife and you see the milky way with your naked eyes which will create wonders in your camping. 

You see numerous attractions of hills, lakes, waterfalls, forts and lot more during Bhandardara camping. It is also known as the darkest spot in the state of Maharashtra. The campground will be at Bhandardara itself where you will find the utmost scenic beauty of the land. So get ready to immerse yourself under the sky filled with gazillion stars and let’s get lost in them. 

What you can look out for:

Aside from enjoying the mountains and hills of Bhandardara you can visit Ratangad and Harishchandragad spots. Or further you can move to see the trails of Ajoba and Ghanchakkar tops. 

You see the Sandhan valley on the western side of the Bhandardara dam and enjoy the view of the same. 

Bhandardara is known for the highest peak Mt kalsubai which is at an altitude of 5,400 feet. If you wish to explore more after your camping you can go on for this trail. 

If you are going on monsoon then don’t forget to visit umbrella waterfalls as it looks unique during rainstorm between july and october. 

You can look out for Randha waterfalls which is about 10kms away from Shendi town. 

On the kalsubai side there lies Konkankada over woods and innate towns. Harishchandragad is the other top with the old sanctuary and a close by mountain region. 


Day 01- 

You will be arriving at Bhandardara campground and there you will be allotted a tent for camping. From the campground you see the Bhandardara lake around you which will mesmerize you. At night enjoy the bonfire where you will be delighted with a supper. Don’t forget to look at the dark sky as it will make your experience memorable as well as enlightening. 

Day 02- 

Wake up to see the lofty variations on the lake and start your day with a breakfast. You can do camping on the other sites also.  There are waterfalls and  forest regions which require exploration and you can reach there by trekking. Here are a few camping exploration spots which you can visit this day:

  • Sandhan valley
  • Randha waterfalls during monsoon
  • Kalsubai 
  • Ratangad fort 
  • Bahuli dam 
  • Bhavli waterfall during monsoon 
  • Samrad village back waterfalls
  • Ghatghar Kokankada

Best time to visit:

The best time to go for Bhandardara camping would be during the winter season. It is the season where you experience nature’s best views. You see towering trees, misty tiara forming above the head, and the chilly winds breeze is what you explore in winters. While those who wish to see the surrounding waterfalls then monsoon would be best. As the falls are at its whole shineness and gushing. Therefore the ideal months to travel in Bhandardara camping are from June till March. So carry all your essentials according to the suitability of the month which you decide to go on for Bhandardara camping. 

Location of Bhandardara:

Bhandardara is surrounded in a hilly village in Maharashtra. It comes under the taluka of Akole. But the real location of this village is in the wetsern coast of Ahmednagar. The nearest town is Akole which is 45kms away from the village. And the area is surrounded with greenery and is not so remote. 

How to reach:

You can wish to reach Bhandardara by any means of transport either by air, by road or by railways. If you travel by air the closest air terminal is Nashik which is around 90kms. And by rail the closest railway station is Igatpuri which is 45kms. By road you can come from any of the available streets of Maharashtra. Particularly state road 44 goes through Bhandardara.

-A water bottle 

-Torch with extra batteries

-Extra clothes

-Personal medicines

-Comfortable footwear


-Warm clothes during winters
